Back at WWDC 2014 when Apple unveiled iOS 8 it took considerable time to explain HealthKit, a new platform within iOS that’s geared towards health and fitness. Developers will be able to use this platform to create their own applications that aid users in measuring and tracking various health and fitness indicators. However before iOS 8 was formally launched to the public Apple removed all HealthKit apps from the App Store due to a bug. Now though those apps have started to come back.
The Healthkit apps had been removed owing to a last minute bug that forced Apple to take this step. Apple did confirm that this had been done due to a bug and that it would try to have HealthKit apps back on the App Store “by the end of this month.”
As iOS 8 was released to the public on September 17th it looks like Apple has been able to meet its own deadline. A simple search of the App Store now reveals that HealthKit apps are back and can now be downloaded on all iOS 8 powered devices. One of the first apps to surface was FitPort which is a dashboard that lets people enter data manually and can also pull data from the Health database in iOS 8.
The apps may have returned even earlier had iOS 8.0.1 not been a disaster. Now that iOS 8.0.2 and all of those issues are taken care of, these apps are finally available for download.
