A few days ago, a bunch of photos and some information was leaked about GoPro’s upcoming action cameras, the HERO4. According to the report at that time, GoPro’s official announcement was pegged for early October, but it looks like the rumors were wrong because GoPro has officially announced three new HERO cameras.
This includes the HERO4 Black, the HERO4 Silver, and the HERO. Starting with the HERO4 Black, this is GoPro’s latest flagship camera. As per the rumors, this camera will be capable of recording 4K video at a framerate of 30fps, a marked improvement over its predecessor which only managed to do it at 15fps. According to GoPro, the Black edition will also be able to capture 12MP “magazine cover-quality” photos and is expected to retail for $499.
Now if you’d rather not spend that much on a camera, you might be interested in the HERO4 Silver edition instead. It is priced at $399 and one of the main differences is that it will come with a built-in touchscreen display. This allows users to frame their shots as well control the camera. It will not support 4K video capture but will go as high as 2.7K @ 30fps, or 1080p @ 60fps.
Last but not least, GoPro has also announced the HERO camera. This is designed to be an entry-level GoPro system for those who want to get in on the video recording but don’t want to pay too much for it. Video capture will be maxed out at 1080p @ 30fps which is admittedly still pretty decent, and will be priced at a very affordable $129.
According to GoPro, the new HERO cameras will be available starting on the 5th of October via GoPro’s website and retailers around the world.
