Foxconn handles much of the manufacturing for Apple’s new iPhones. It is reportedly solely responsible for the production of iPhone 6 Plus. Most of the manufacturer’s facilities are located in China but there’s one plant outside the country where iPhones and iPads are made, that’s the Foxconn facility in Brazil. It is feared that the strike at this particular facility may end up impacting iPhone supply.
Reports claim that as many as 3,700 workers employed at the Foxconn facility in Brazil have gone on strike. They were contracted back in 2012 and are still working on the same salaries. The workers demand a new system for salaries and local roles, the management is believed to be dragging its heels on this.
The management did put forward a proposal to workers that a plan on organizational structure will be worked up in two weeks and then a month will be required to put that plan into practice. According to the Metalworking Industries Union in the state of Sao Paulo, the workers have rejected this proposal.
This strike started on September 11th and continues to this day. Rallies take place everyday outside the facility’s gates. If no iPhone units are manufactured here it is feared that an impact will be felt on the supply of Apple’s smartphone, at a time when the company an ill-afford any such adventure. Hopefully Foxconn will be able to resolve this matter amicably in the near future.
