The Moto 360 is probably one of the better looking smartwatches available in the market at the moment, but as is with the case with industrial design, we’re pretty sure this is not what Motorola had in mind when they first started working on the smartwatch. In fact we’re sure that the company had gone through many designs and revisions before landing on the design that we all know and love.
That being said, the folks at Droid-Life were given a tour at Motorola’s Moto 360 labs in Chicago last week where Motorola revealed to them a handful of different designs that could have made it to the market. As you can see in the images above and below, it seems that Motorola started off with a square/rectangular-ish design which is more or less the design that most OEMs have gone for.
In some way we can’t blame them for that as a square/rectangular design does make some sense as it would essentially be a miniaturized smartphone and a shape that we know and are familiar with when it comes to touchscreen devices. The older designs also showed off rubber brands and what looks like plastic faces as well.
Even when Motorola came up with the round face, they had to choose between having a bezel or having no bezel, and thankfully they went with the latter as it makes the watch look bigger. So, what do you guys think? Are you glad that Motorola landed on the design they did, or did one of the older designs catch your eye?
