Ubisoft released Watch Dogs earlier this year in June and the title immediately shot up the charts around the world, particularly in the United Kingdom, where it became the biggest new IP launch in history. It was also crowned as the 17th biggest game launch in the UK’s history. Enter Destiny, Activision’s $500 million title, which not only earned the publisher its investment back on release day but has also become the biggest new IP launch in the history of the United Kingdom, stealing that crown from Watch Dogs.
The confirmation comes from Chart-Track, a retail tracker based in the UK, which looks at sales of physical copies through retailers. As per Chart-Track’s figures apart from being the biggest new IP launch in UK Destiny is also the biggest video game launch in the country up till now, with Watch Dogs trailing behind in second and Titanfall coming in third.
It is imperative to mention here that Chart-Track’s figures don’t reflect Destiny’s digital downloads through the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. Sony’s PS4 accounted for 46 percent of Destiny sales while Xbox One took 36 percent. PlayStation 3 had four percent and the Xbox 360 clinched 14 percent.
Now Destiny is the 17th biggest video game launch in the UK and its behind installments from popular franchises like Call of Duty, FIFA, Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto.
