Given that wearables are starting to kick off and become the next big thing in tech, many are starting to wonder about security and privacy of user data in these wearable devices. This is a question that is always raised whenever there is a new product or product category that has been announced, and we guess the recently announced Apple Watch is no exception.
Recently it seems that Connecticut’s Attorney General, George Jepsen, has issued a letter to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, and has asked him to explain just how the Apple Watch will be collecting and storing user data. If so, Jepsen wants to know what are Apple’s plans to safeguard the information.
Given that the Apple Watch will tie in with the Health app and HealthKit framework that is part of iOS 8, it is natural that there are some out there who might be a little concerned about having their biometrics and medical information so readily available. If the recent iCloud hacking attempts are any indication, it would seem to suggest that no data is 100% safe.
However it was back in August that Apple had updated the licensing terms for iOS 8, in which they state that developers who agree to use their software will not share the data gathered from HealthKit. Then again all it takes is one rogue developer to break the rules before all hell is unleashed, but what do you guys think?
