That being said, it seems that iOS 7’s adoption is sitting pretty high ahead of iOS 8’s release. According to Chitika (via Cult of Mac), they have found that iOS 7’s market share amongst the other iOS releases is currently at 90%. This seems to be in line with an earlier report by Apple which confirms the 90% market share, although both reports probably use different metrics to arrive at their figures.
However Chitika’s version also shows that the market share of iOS 6 is down to 6.4%, 2.7% for iOS 5, with a fraction belonging to even older iOS builds as well as iOS 8, which presumably are developers who have the beta iOS 8 builds installed on their devices. Chitika has also found that 65.4% of iPhone web traffic belongs to that of the iPhone 5 family, which includes the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 5c.
So far it seems that iOS 7 is pretty successful in terms of adoption, although in all fairness it was a pretty huge update, so we have to wonder with iOS 8 keeping more or less the same design as iOS 7, will its adoption rate be just as fast, if not faster, than its predecessor?
