It always pays to be prepared, and in this case, Blizzard has stepped forward to say that they will be working on freeing up long dormant character names in the past half a dozen years in order to make sure that when the World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion launches later this fall, there will be a wider range of names that gamers will be able to play around with.
In other words, if you happen to have a World of Warcraft character that has yet to log into the game since November 13, 2008, those names of your beloved characters will experience a reset – which means it is free for anyone and everyone to take advantage of it. That means new players and anyone else who is using World of Warcraft’s paid Character Name Change service will be able to lay claim to those names.
For those who would want to preserve their character names – whether out of the fact that you will play Warlords of Draenor or are simply hanging on to it out of sentimental value, it is highly recommended that you log in with each character that you would want to save before the launch of patch 6.0.2. Patch 6.0.2 is when the update will make way for the Warlords of the Draenor release this coming November 13th, marking the fifth expansion in the World of Warcraft universe. [Press Release]
