AT&T: 4G LTE Signal Blankets Over 300 Million People

Now here is an interesting bit of news that you might want to consider the next time you decide to choose a new mobile carrier in the U.S. – apparently, AT&T claims that their 4G LTE signal will now cover 300 million people who happen to live in the U.S., which would make them ahead of schedule where the company’s targets are concerned. In November a couple of years ago, AT&T set this particular target as part of its Project VIP, and they achieved this target with three months or so left to spare.

Do take note that in order to push out a 4G LTE network across a country as large as the U.S. would require a fair amount of financing, and AT&T claimed to have invested more capital in the U.S. economy compared to any other public listed company from 2008 to 2013. In that five year plus period, AT&T touted how they had sunk in over $140 billion on its wireless and wireline operations, and this particular figure would also include purchases of spectrum for its cellular operations.

Coverage for 300 million Americans? Sounds as though they have more or less got the whole country blanketed in 4G LTE, especially when you take into consideration how the U.S. has close to 314 million people living there. Do you think reality reflects this claim? [Press Release]
