Last week Apple took to the stage at the Flint Center in Cupertino to unveil the Apple Watch, its first wearable device. The device has been shown off but it won’t be hitting the market until early next year. That leaves Apple will ample time to have units mass produced before the $349 base priced smartwatch goes up for sale. We hear today that the AMOLED panels for Apple Watch will be provided by LG Display which will ship about five million of these displays every month to Apple.
The report about LG Display providing AMOLED panels for Apple Watch comes from Digitimes, an infamous trade publication that’s based in Taiwan and appears to have sources based in the supply chain. It apparently received this information from sources within LG Display.
The sources say that Apple will receive five million AMOLED panels for its wearable device throughout 2015, with the release expected to take place in the first quarter of 2015. Apparently the company is aiming to sell more than 50 million units of the Apple Watch throughout next year.
LG Display is reportedly the sole provider of displays for the Apple Watch, previous rumors had suggested that the company might also source displays from Samsung.
Apple has not yet confirmed exactly when its smartwatch is going to hit the market, we expect that it will only reveal this information when the release is quite near, so we may have to wait until 2015 to find out for sure.
