It had been rumored many, many times that Amazon was working on a smartphone. A couple of months back the online retail giant finally showed off its first handset called the Amazon Fire Phone. It is exclusive to AT&T in the U.S. and will be launched in its first international markets, UK and Germany, starting September 30th. Interestingly the Amazon Fire Phone price in U.S. has been slashed merely six weeks after it hit the market. The smartphone is now available for $0.99 with a two year contract.
This isn’t something that one should read a lot into but Amazon’s price cut for its first smartphone has come a day before Apple’s September 9th event where its going to unveil two new iPhones and if predictions are correct, the iWatch as well.
The Amazon Fire Phone made its way to AT&T on July 25th for $199 with a two year contract. All customers get 32GB of onboard storage plus unlimited cloud storage powered by Amazon for photos. They also get 12 months of Amazon Prime for free.
At this rate the $0.99 deal is pretty enticing but the question remains, will it be enough to attract customers? We have heard chatter that the Fire Phone isn’t selling as well as Amazon had hoped and obviously cutting prices is one sure fire way to change that. Amazon Fire Phone will now be available for $0.99 with a new contract through AT&T’s brick and mortar stores as well as its website.
