What is the point of progress in technology if the masses are unable to take advantage of it? Having said that, the USB port has certainly made huge strides in terms of speed over the years, and it looks like such innovation is not going to stop anytime soon. Late last year, a new USB Type-C Connector was announced, with a render of it spotted just a few months after that announcement. It seems that the USB Type-C Connector is finally ready to enter mass production, and fingers crossed, we ought to see it hit the market sooner rather than later.
The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has announced that the USB Type-C specifications are now complete, which means compatible devices will soon be able to take advantage of USB cables and connectors that are a whole lot slimmer than usual, not to mention boasting SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.1) support and the wonders of USB Power Delivery of up to 100W.
While the connector’s design is completely new, it still bears a strong family resemblance to the previous USB 2.0 Micro-B connections, which were a whole lot slimmer compared to the stock USB 2.0. Even better is the fact that USB Type-C Connector will boast of reversible plug orientation and cable direction, making it a no brainer when you plug it in the next time. [Press Release]
