Last year Samsung jumped on the wearable device bandwagon by launching the Galaxy Gear. Initially this smartwatch was powered by a modified version of Android but a few months back Samsung released a Tizen update for it. The first Gear smartwatch now runs on Samsung’s homegrown OS but that doesn’t mean developers can’t tinker with it the way they would with Android. The first custom ROM for Galaxy Gear based on Tizen has been released.
With custom ROMs it goes without saying that they are developed by unofficial sources and the installation process isn’t as easy as many would hope. However that doesn’t mean it’s entirely impossible to get one to run, do your research and you will be fine.
This custom ROM for the Galaxy Gear is based on the latest Tizen XXUCNF1 release and it is pre-rooted. Camera sound has been removed and it includes changed boot and shutdown animation. The ROM also adds Android L font and brings a battery optimizations as well.
The developer of this custom ROM promises that the next release will be themed so expect user interface changes down the line. To install this custom ROM on your Galaxy Gear first download the required file, reboot the smartwatch in download mode and then follow these instructions to get through.
