T-Mobile Will Throttle Those Who Torrent Via Unlimited LTE Accounts

T-Mobile does not want to be a party pooper, but it seems as though if you are going to take advantage of its 4G LTE services, then it would be in your best interest not to deal with torrents. Apparently, from this 17th of August onward, T-Mobile will initiate throttling for users who decide to download torrents or play their part in P2P activities over the 4G LTE network.

Do take note, however, that this particular restriction will apply only to those users have subscribed for any of the Unlimited High-Speed Data plans, and torrenting would invoke a clause in T-Mobile’s T&C (Terms & Conditions). So far, T-Mobile has been able to track down the biggest LTE data hogs on its network, and will send them a notice that they have not toed the line which was originally agreed upon. Throttling these lines would mean the download speed will be decreased, at least until the next billing cycle begins.

John Legere and T-Mobile have defined the term “misuse” as “Using the Service in connection with server devices or host computer applications, including continuous Web camera posts or broadcasts, automatic data feeds, automated machine-to-machine connections or peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing applications that are broadcast to multiple servers or recipients, “bots” or similar routines that could disrupt net user groups or email use by others or other applications that denigrate network capacity or functionality.“
