Sony’s PXW-X70 XDCAM carries the distinction of being the first model of its kind to merge the format’s file-based capabilities into a compact form factor. It can handle high-definition video in XAVC Long GOP, all the while delivering 4:2:2 10-bit sampling at 50 Mb/s, in addition to supporting broadcast-quality workflows in newsgathering and documentary applications.
Not only that, the PXW-X70 also happens to be Sony’s first professional compact camcorder that will boast of Wi-Fi-enabled control through the use of smartphones or tablets, thanks to the Content Browser Mobile application. There will also be an upcoming upgrade which will enable the 4K-ready PXW-X70 to record in 4K Ultra-High Definition so that it is capable of keeping up with the times, as well as making its mark in the future. Not only that the mentioned impending update will also enable it to perform file transferring and live video streaming when the time comes.
There is no word on pricing for the Sony PXW-X70 XDCAM camcorder as at press time, although it is being penciled in for a fall release. [Press Release]
