Well it looks like perhaps Sony has decided that the venture wasn’t as profitable or as popular as they had thought, and according to a post on Sony’s Japanese website (via Expert Reviews), it seems that Sony has decided to put an end to Android support for PlayStation Mobile. For those wondering, PlayStation Mobile is where Android owners could download PSOne titles from.
With Sony officially ending their support, this potentially means that future Android handsets will no longer be able to download the app or play indie games or PSOne titles that fall under the Sony banner. At the same time Sony did not completely close the door as it seems that the app should work on devices running on Android 4.4.3 or later, although there is no guarantee that it will play nicely with Android L.
We should point out that Sony is only ending support for Android devices. PlayStation Mobile will continue to be alive and well on the PlayStation store, so if you’re primarily a PlayStation gamer, we guess this doesn’t affect you unless you rely on your Android handset to play classic PSOne titles and the likes.
