This is why it is understandable that there are some users out there who are a bit miffed when they discover that one day, software on their computer stops working simply because they do not have the latest hardware/software. This is what’s been happening to some OS X 10.5 users who discovered that one day, their Skype application decided to stop working, instead asking the user to downloaded the latest version.
Ironically enough the latest version requires newer software, OS X 10.9, which for some users who are still running OS X 10.5 is incompatible with their hardware, essentially meaning that they would have to buy a brand new computer. This issue also seems to have affected users running OS X 10.7.5 Lion as well, so OS X 10.5 users aren’t alone on this.
In an official response from Skype, they write, “First, let me assure you that no-one is locking you out from using Skype on OS X 10.6 – 10.8 and there is no need to upgrade to Mavericks or (the new OS X now in dev preview) Yosemite if you don’t want to.” While this does clear up some confusion for OS X 10.7.5 users, it also basically confirms that Skype no longer supports OS X 10.5. Anyone else a little outraged by this?
