Samsung is committed to the wearable device market and there’s no doubt that it wants to be a leader in this segment as well. At IFA last year the company showed off its first smartwatch, Galaxy Gear, which was succeeded by the Gear 2 lineup after nearly six months. While it is unlikely that at this year’s IFA Samsung will have a smartwatch to show off, a new report has been published recently which claims to offer information about the Samsung Gear 3.
According to Pocketnow the biggest difference between Samsung Gear 2 and the Samsung Gear 3 will be the display. Apparently the latter is going to have a curved display. The Gear 2 has a 1.6-inch square panel, Gear 3’s display is said to be “slightly rectangular,” and a bit bigger with thin bezels.
The report claims that the Gear 3’s AMOLED display will have a very pronounced curve, greater than the curved display on Gear Fit. A rectangular home button like the one present on Samsung’s Android smartphones is also rumored. Gear 3 is said to run on Tizen, Samsung’s homegrown OS, instead of Android Wear.
While the report claims that Gear 3 may not have camera it is claimed that the smartwatch could have a cellular radio, which should enable it to make calls and send text messages on its own. The scribe’s source says that this smartwatch is being prepped for release next month but doesn’t say if it will be unveiled at IFA. The Gear 3 mentioned here shouldn’t be confused with the Gear Solo, that’s yet another Samsung wearable which is in the rumor mill these days.
