New Surface Firmware Updates Arrive Today

Microsoft intends to keep their hardware relevant with the necessary software updates, and as part of Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday for the month of August 2014, the Redmond, Washington company decided to introduce a slew of firmware updates that will cater for its growing family of Surface devices. Expect the happy trio of the Surface RT, Surface Pro and the recently introduced Surface Pro 3 to make the cut, and if you happen to be rocking to the Surface 2 or the Surface Pro 2, you might want to give this story a miss.

Basically, the Surface RT would receive the Surface RT UEFI (v3.31.500) update that supposedly enhances overall system stability, while the Surface Pro ought to see its network connection stability improve, while functionality on WiFi networks using a hidden SSID has been enabled. As for the Surface Pro 3, do expect the Surface Pro Embedded Controller Firmware (v38.4.50.0) to deliver improved support for Surface Power Cover, while there is also the Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware (v3.9.250.0) that offers better support for Surface Power Cover and enhances overall system stability, with Microsoft LifeCam Front (v5.20.1034.0) helping improve power consumption by a significant amount if you are involved in video chat apps like Skype, while supporting Flash camera streaming in Internet Explorer, among others.
