Recently it was reported that Motorola might be making the next generation Nexus smartphone for Google. The future of the Nexus lineup recently came into question when speculation about Google’s Android Silver initiative began. Motorola has a new smartphone up its sleeve codenamed “Shamu” and initially it was believed that this was the Nexus 6. Now though a report claims that this might not be the Nexus 6 but an Android Silver device destined for Verizon.
According to TKTechNews, which was able to verify its IMEI through Swappa, that its a Motorola device heading to Verizon. The scribe was also able to obtain specifications of this device, a 5.9-inch Quad HD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with a “ridiculous amount of RAM,” 2.1 megapixel front camera, 13 megapixel rear camera as well as Android L with no custom skins plastered on top.
Motorola hasn’t commented on the existence of the “Shamu,” and Google hasn’t hinted if the company really is going to work on the upcoming Nexus device. So there’s no official word about when the device is going to be launched. Since Android L is expected to be released this fall, its possible that the “Shamu” may only be released after the new software arrives.
We’ll continue to keep an eye on this, there’s certainly the possibility that additional information about this device may leak over the coming weeks.
