Well it turns out that one particular gamers was so displeased with this alleged false advertising that he has since launched a lawsuit in California, suing Sony over Killzone: Shadow Fall’s graphics. According to the gamer, Douglas Ladore, he claims that Sony had advertised that the game would run at native 1080p resolution, but instead “used a technological shortcut that was supposed to provide ‘subjectively similar’ results.”
He also adds, “Unfortunately, Sony’s marketing and on-box representations turned out to be nothing more than fiction.” With the previous report, the game’s producer took to the Killzone website where he tried to explain what they meant. Instead of the game running in native 1080p resolution, they used a technique called temporal reprojection, which basically predicts where pixels will be in the future.
However Ladore claims that temporal projection is not the same as native 1080p, at least that’s not what Sony had promised, and that Sony had failed to update their packaging and marketing materials to reflect that. He is suing for negligent misrepresentation, false advertising, unfair competition, and fraud in the inducement, and is seeking damages as high as $5 million.
