There have been a lot of talks over the past few years as to whether Apple will finally implement NFC technology into its phones. Apple has long been known to be pretty stubborn when it comes to giving into the demands of the public, instead insisting on choosing to do their own thing.
In some ways their insistence has attributed to the Cupertino company’s success, but could the iPhone 6 finally be the iPhone that actually sports the NFC technology? Well previously leaked schematics have suggested that could be the case and now thanks to the folks at MacRumors, they have compiled some evidence to support this theory.
One of the evidence comes in the form of NXP’s PN65 NFC technology which was discovered by a MacRumors forum member, chrmjenkins. According to the document, it states that the chip will measure 5mm x 5mm and as you can see in the image above which shows the alleged logic boards belonging to the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6, the red boxes highlight the place the NFC chip could be fitted.
This is further corroborated by comparing it to the logic board of the iPhone 5s which shows that the red box does not correspond to any component on the iPhone 5s’ logic board. Of course it is possible that other components in the iPhone could be used to fit in that spot, not to mention component design changes are likely as well, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
However with rumors suggesting that Apple could be getting ready for mobile payments, the idea of Apple using NFC to facilitate those payments might not be such a stretch, but either way do check back with us on the 9th of September which is when Apple is rumored to make their announcement.
