Kicking things off, VentureBeat’s sources have told them that the screens used for the iPhone 6 will not be of the sapphire variety (at least not pure sapphire). They will, on the other hand, be extremely hard and more durable than Gorilla Glass, but still not quite as hard as sapphire. This corroborates an earlier video in which it showed the alleged iPhone 6 display still prone to scratches.
They also go on to “confirm” that the iPhone 6 will pack an A8 chipset, which we guess is kind of to be expected. The chipset is said to be clocked at 2GHz which is a significant boost over the iPhone 5s’ A7 chipset which is clocked at 1.3GHz. However we have also heard how the rumored 5.5-inch iPhone 6 might sport a faster processor than the 4.7-inch model, so we’re not sure if 2GHz is for the 4.7-inch iPhone or the 5.5-inch model.
The report also claims the iPhone 6 will have faster WiFi, use Qualcomm’s MDM9x35 cellular modem, and will apparently feature NFC as well. Now NFC is a feature that has been rumored to make its way into the iPhone for quite a while now, so either this is wishful thinking or iPhone users might finally get their wish.
In any case do take all of this with a huge spoonful of salt for now, but hopefully the 9th of September launch date will come true, so be sure to check back with us then for the details if there are any to be had.
