If you kept an eye on Apple’s software related news this week you might have heard that the company seeded another pre-release beta of OS X Yosemite to developers and all those who are participating in the public developer program. Many would have expected a new iOS 8 beta alongside this release, because that’s what generally happens, but iOS 8 beta 6 was not seeded to developers this week. Reportedly Apple only seeded the beta to carriers.
BGR claims that Apple didn’t seed iOS 8 beta 6 to developers because the golden master build release isn’t that far off. For those who don’t know a GM build is considered to be the final pre-release version of software before it is released for the general public.
Since carriers have to test out the update on their own systems as well, Apple has to seeded pre-release builds to them. It wouldn’t really surprise anyone if iOS 8 beta 6 has already landed with carriers since its essentially business as usual. Its possible that the iOS 8 GM build might be released for all registered developers next month, close to the launch of iPhone 6.
Up till now the company has seeded five betas of iOS 8 to developers who have provided Apple their feedbacks on how to iron out any kinks that might be remaining in the software. Announced at WWDC 2014 this year iOS 8 is expected to be released for all supported devices once the new iPhones hit the market.
