Huawei’s Boss Doesn’t Think Tizen Will Be A Success

One of the reasons why Samsung has started to focus a bit more on its Tizen operating system is because they are trying not to be too dependent on Google for their success. Given that Android is currently one of the more dominating platforms at the moment, with Samsung contributing to that, safe to say that if Google were to suddenly stop supporting Android or start charging a fee to use its software, Samsung could be in big trouble.

Now Samsung’s Tizen phones have yet to become mainstream, although the platform has made its debut in Samsung’s smartwatches like the Galaxy Gear, Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo, and so on, but is it possible that one day Tizen could become as big as Android or iOS? We’re sure that’s what Samsung is hoping for, but unfortunately not everyone feels that way.

According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, they interviewed Huawei’s boss, Richard Yu, who expressed that Tizen had no chance of being a success. In fact at one point in time, Huawei was researching Samsung-made software, but Yu claims to have since shut it down.

As for their reliance on Google for their smartphone software, Yu states that he is concerned but apparently they do not have a choice at the moment, and that while a homegrown operating system would be easy to make, it’s the building of an ecosystem around it that makes it a challenge.
