Interestingly enough despite how some OEMs were reportedly against the use of sapphire in their device’s displays, there have been several rumors recently that suggested that more OEMs are starting to reconsider their stance. We’ve seen Kyocera launch the Kyocera Brigadier, Vivo has been rumored to be planning a sapphire smartphone as well, and now thanks to a new report, Huawei is reportedly planning one as well.
This is apparently according to Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s CEO, who revealed in an interview with the 21st Century Business Herald that the company is reportedly working on a Huawei Ascend P7 model that will sport a sapphire glass front panel. This is all pretty interesting because it seems that it was Apple who kicked off the sapphire trend, even though at this point in time, Apple has yet to officially confirm it themselves.
The Huawei Ascend P7 was officially launched earlier this year in May, so we have to wonder if reintroducing the handset with a sapphire glass cover makes sense, especially when other OEMs are looking to boost their hardware specs, like Samsung with the rumored Galaxy Note 4 which looks like it could be quite a monster.
In any case we’re not sure if and when Huawei will unveil this more premium version of the Ascend P7, but with IFA 2014 kicking off next month, it could be a good time for Huawei to show off their products. Either way do check back with us at a later date for the details.
