It was first rumored a couple of months back that HTC is working on a new Windows Phone device. Microsoft has recently been trying to get more OEMs onboard and while HTC has developed WP devices in the past, over the last couple of years its focus has squarely been on Android devices. Apparently HTC’s new WP device is nothing more than the HTC One (M8) running Windows Phone 8.1, specifications and design is expected to be the same more or less. But according to a new rumor its possible for its bootloader to have support for Android.
Released earlier this year, the HTC One (M8) is one exquisitely made device. Its full metal build has been praised by customers and it touts high-end specifications under the hood. HTC may want to bank on this winner as it jumps on the Windows Phone 8.1 bandwagon.
According to @upleaks who has taken up the baton from the infamous, and now retired, @evleaks the HTC One (M8) for WP is going to have an open bootloader that’s similar to the one on the Android powered M8. There’s no confirmation as yet from HTC but if this out to be true then developers will be able to work some magic.
What they’ll be able to do theoretically, provided that both versions of the HTC One (M8) have same specifications, is port the OS so that both variants can run either Android or Windows Phone. Its too soon to say if someone will come up with a dual boot solution but its likely that some developer may give it a try.
We’ll only know this for sure once HTC releases this Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone. Rumor has it that the release might take place later this month.
