However it seems that the company behind Apple’s sapphire, GT Advanced Technologies, has recently revealed in their financial results (via MacRumors) that they are expected to transition to volume production soon.
This is according to Tom Gutierrez, the CEO of GT Advanced Technologies who wrote, “The build-out of our Arizona facility, which has involved taking a 1.4 million square foot facility from a shell to a functional structure as well as the installation of sapphire growth and fabrication equipment, is nearly complete and we are commencing the transition to volume production.”
Of course it is unclear if this volume production of sapphire means that we can expect the iPhone 6 displays to all sport sapphire covers, but assuming that they are only getting into gear this late into the game, there is a chance that the previous rumors of a possible delay or supply constraint could end up being true as well.
