Google Play Store Already Flooded With Swing Copters Clones

As we’re sure most of you guys have heard, Dong Nguyen’s Swing Copters has made its way onto iOS and Android. For those unfamiliar with Nguyen, he was the developer behind the highly addictive and frustrating Flappy Bird game, and it seems that he has not lost his touch because Swing Copters appears to be equally frustrating and addictive, if not more.

That being said, many developers appear to have learnt their lesson from the Flappy Bird app and have since flooded Google Play with Swing Copters clones. Considering that Flappy Bird managed to pull in a reported $50,000 a day on ads alone, we can understand why developers are rushing to cash in on Swing Copters in hopes that it will pay out just as well.

While we guess developers are free to develop whatever games they wish, this cloning and the allowing of copycat apps can be a problem. Not only does this confuse some gamers who might not be able to tell which app is the real deal, but malicious developers and hackers can also take advantage of the app’s popularity and hype to hide malware in similarly titled apps which unsuspecting users will then download, but what do you guys think? Should Google be more proactive when it comes to such copycat/clone apps like this?
