It is more or less a given that majority of the Android-powered smartphones as well as tablets that are in the market happen to feature Google’s News and Weather app and widget right out of the box. However, what most people would have overlooked is this – that Google has failed to update the app for a fair amount of time. Since good things do come to those who wait, it is worth mentioning that both apps have just received an update.
In other words, you no longer have to live with the app and widget that continues to remain stuck in the Android 2.3 Gingerbread format, but rather, to settle for a new and improved layout that sports a cards-style user interface, not to mention a resizable home screen widget to boot.
Such updates are far from being earth shaking, but taking into consideration that it has been quite a fair amount of time ever since Google themselves rolled out an official update to the news and weather app, this is definitely something worth talking about. One is able to resize the widget that depicts a multi-day forecast above the latest headlines, allowing it to take up additional space – or less, depending on your needs at that moment. If you were to hit any of the news stories shown, the default web browser will boot up to deliver the original piece.
