It was just yesterday that we reported on how a drone crashed into Yellowstone National Park’s largest hot spring – talk about landing in hot water! Well, it seems that here is another interesting drone crash that might just pique your interest – where this drone delivery went south as it crashed near the fence of the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville. Apparently, the prisoners there had outside contacts who used the drone to make an attempt at delivering illicit items, only to fail in their effort.
Apparently, the wrecked drone was carrying a payload of cell phones as well as drugs, and the culprit has so far been located already. Officials presented in court Brenton Lee Doyle, who after some investigation, was arrested after being charged of carrying out the action.
This is a far more advanced manner in which cell phones made an attempt to fall into the hands of prisoners, since the previous modus operandi required a really, really strong hand, as these handsets were sent hurtling through the air, hoping to be launched high enough over the prison walls. It does make me wonder whether the prison guards will soon have the authority to use their firearms on such drones, picking them off in mid-air like clay pigeons.
