It has been a few weeks since Microsoft confirmed that it is rolling out Windows Phone 8.1 for all supported devices. Nokia’s device business, which is owned by Microsoft now, also confirmed that the Lumia Cyan update is rolling out as well. Cyan is based on WP8.1 and includes exclusive features for Lumia devices. Multiple reports coming in today suggest that the AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 Lumia Cyan update has been released.
Apart from landing on Lumia 1020 handsets on AT&T it’s possible that the update may also in the process of being rolled out to other carriers around the world. Microsoft has started the roll out of Windows Phone 8.1 and it is already looking ahead to the next major update for its mobile platform.
Do keep in mind though that you may not be able to update your device if you’re on the Developer Preview of Windows Phone 8.1, or have downloaded the subsequent major update that was also released in Developer Preview a couple of weeks back.
If that is the case you will have to hook up your Lumia with a computer, launch the Nokia Recovery tool and roll back the software to Windows Phone 8.0 so that it can receive the over-the-air Windows Phone 8.1 update. You may be able to update directly using the tool itself.
While bringing all the bells and whistles of Windows Phone 8.1, the Lumia Cyan update also includes some exclusive features, details on which can be found here.
