It was expected that Apple and Beats could officially seal the deal on the 1st of August, pending regulatory approval, and it looks like it has. A few months ago, Apple confirmed that they would be acquiring Beats and at $3 billion, it has to be one of Apple’s larger acquisitions to date. Apple has since officially welcomed Beats to the Apple family with a special welcome page on their website.
According to the message on the page, “Today we are excited to officially welcome Beats Music and Beats Electronics to the Apple family. Music has always held a special place in our hearts, and we’re thrilled to join forces with a group of people who love it as much as we do.”
They add, “Beats cofounders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre have created beautiful products that have helped millions of people deepen their connection to music. We’re delighted to be working with the team to elevate that experience even further.”
At this point it is still unclear as to what Apple might have planned for Beats. Some believe it could be more of a talent grab and could be using Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre’s connections to help further their cause and to make themselves more culturally relevant, while some believe that it could be because they’re interested in Beats Music, Beats’ music subscription service.
In any case only time will tell what Apple truly has planned for Beats, so we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime anyone else excited at the possibilities and the future of Beats at Apple?
