Amazon To Test Drone Deliveries In India

Folks living in the U.S. would know by now that when it comes to testing out drones, there are just very few areas that have been designated for such testing to occur. The rules, however, are a whole lot more relaxed elsewhere, such as in India as the world’s second most populous country looks set to be the place where Amazon will roll out their plan to perform deliveries to customers using drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

These drone delivery services are tipped to kick off in Mumbai and Bangalore first, as these are the same two cities that hosts Amazon’s warehouse, so it makes perfect logistical sense to begin there. Apparently, we have word that such services will kick off by Diwali this year.

So far, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has not penciled in rules for drone use in India, which means there is no clear cut legal prognosis when it comes to making use of drones in commercial activities. Hopefully this is one particular plan that will be able to take off (pun not intended) without a hitch when the time comes. If not, do you think Amazon will eventually ditch the idea of a drone delivery system?
