Several weeks ago, it was reported that Xiaomi would be launching the Mi 4 on the 22nd of July, and sure enough they have as the Chinese company has officially announced their latest flagship handset, and we have to say that it is look pretty damn good! According to the company, they claim that the Mi 4 is the company’s fastest and most gorgeous handset to date, and while speed is subjective, it is pretty stunning in terms of its looks.
It seems that Xiaomi has borrowed some design ideas from the competition like HTC and Apple by using metal as part of the handset’s frame. The chamfered edges also seem to be a nod towards Apple and its design of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, although as we can see in the images, the back is a little bit more curved.
Now in terms of hardware specs, the Mi 4 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and will be accompanied by 3GB of RAM. It will also be available in 16/64GB options and will come with a 5-inch Full HD display. There will also be a 13MP rear-facing camera on the back with an aperture of f/1.8 which is pretty bright, and will also be able to record videos in 4K. The front-facing camera is of the 8MP variety and will also sport an aperture of f/1.8, so your selfies in low-light shouldn’t be a problem.
The phone will pack a 3,080mAh battery with a quick-charging feature and will also sport a swappable back plate and will have a variety of different designs to choose from, which as we can see in the image above, could have wooden options to choose from. As far as pricing is concerned, Xiaomi has priced the Mi 4 at a pretty affordable $320 for the 16GB option, and $400 for the 64GB model.
No word on whether Xiaomi plans on making the Mi 4 available outside of China, but given that Xiaomi’s US plans will most likely come into effect next year, it looks like we will have to give the Mi 4 a miss, unless you are planning on order it via grey import channels.
