htc-one-review-m8-labshot-12According to a report earlier this year, it was suggested that HTC could be working on a new Windows Phone handset that would be based on the design of their current flagship smartphone, the HTC One M8. Given that the HTC One M8 is a beautifully designed handset, safe to say we are looking forward to its Windows Phone variant, assuming it exists.

That being said, given that HTC has reportedly cancelled its second flagship smartphone for the year, it is understandable that some of you guys might be a bit worried about the fate of this device. Well fret not because according to a recent tweet by The Verge’s Tom Warren, it looks like the device is alive and well.

According to Warren, he essentially reconfirmed the existence of the device. “Oh and HTC is working on a Windows Phone version of the One. Should be out later this year.” Unfortunately he did not specify when we might be able to look forward to it, but considering that we’re a little more than halfway into the year, we guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but a metal-clad Windows Phone (at least more so than the Nokia Icon) should be a pretty nice touch. We’re not sure if the specs will be the same or if it will only share the design, but do check back with us at a later date for the details.
