Sprint LG G Flex Gets Wi-Fi Calling

The no.3 carrier today rolled out an update for its variant of the LG G Flex smartphone. It starts rolling out today in batches and may take up to a week for the roll out to complete. The software version is ZV7 and one of the biggest features that it brings to the G Flex is Wi-Fi calling. The feature will allow users to make voice calls even if Sprint’s network lets them down, all they need is a working Wi-Fi connection.

Unfortunately this update doesn’t bump up the core Android version to 4.4.4, even though that particular update has already been rolled out to some Android devices. Sprint’s latest update for the G Flex includes a Google Patch as well which brings bug fixes for SMS and improves security.

Presumably the security patches are related to the round of OpenSSL bugs that made headlines recently, in that case it would be a good idea to jump on this update right away when it lands on your device.

Users will also notice that this update adds a HD Voice Icon and updates email signature as well. As previously mentioned the software is going to be rolled out in batches and the roll out may take over a week to complete. Once it goes live in a particular region users will receive a notification on their devices informing them that an over-the-air update is available for download.
