However is that a bad thing? Is that why consoles like the Wii U aren’t doing as well, because they don’t cater to more “hardcore” gamers? We suppose there’s an argument for it, but according to Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, he has taken Nintendo’s side despite Sony being considered a rival of Nintendo with the PlayStation console.
According to Yoshida, he believes that Nintendo adds a balance to the whole gaming industry. Speaking to Games Industry International, Yoshida was quoted as saying, “If you look at the whole industry, and you consider Nintendo, I think the balance is actually better than past years.”
His statement was in reference to Sony’s LittleBigPlanet 3 where it differed drastically from the more realistic and hardcore military shooters out there. “I was very happy to get a very positive reaction when we announced LittleBigPlanet 3. We are concerned a little bit when we work on a game like LittleBigPlanet 3, about how people will react, because people want those big-budget, realistic, military shooters. But there were lots of cheers, a lot of affection.”
It’s actually a pretty interesting perspective, but what do you guys think? Do you agree that Nintendo’s games are a nice balance and change of pace in the gaming industry?
