According to their findings, as you can see in the chart above, Yosemite’s adoption rate in the first 30 days ended at 0.20%. This is versus OS X 10.9 Mavericks which ended at 0.05%. In fact Yosemite had a much stronger headstart compared to Mavericks. Chitika writes, “Overall, the data point to a promising future for OS X Yosemite. In the short term, we expect the operating system’s usage share to grow in the wake of the release of the third Developer Preview edition on July 7, 2014.”
So why the strong interest in Yosemite? Well the analytics firm believes that this is due to the changes and features that Apple is introducing, namely how Yosemite will feature more collaboration with iOS, a boon for iOS and OS X users who are looking to transition from mobile to desktop, and desktop to mobile seamlessly.
One of the notable features would be Handoff which allows users to start an activity on their iOS device and transfer that activity to another device without losing anything in the process. Chitika also expects that when Yosemite is finally released to the public that its adoption rate will outpace previous Mac OS releases as well.
