Nokia Lumia 530 Is Microsoft’s Attempt At Budget Smartphones

nokia lumia 530Just yesterday we reported that the Nokia Lumia 530 had been spotted on a Vietnamese retailer’s website. We weren’t sure if the retailer was simply listing it as a placeholder, especially since we have been hearing rumors about it for a while, but as it turns out, the retailer might have jumped the gun because Microsoft has officially announced the Nokia Lumia 530.

The handset is the successor to the Nokia Lumia 520 which was one of Nokia’s cheaper handsets, but yet managed to end up being one of Windows Phone’s best selling handsets to date. As expected, its successor is still a pretty low-end affair and if you wanted a more powerful Windows Phone handset, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

However if you’re shopping on a budget, then perhaps the Lumia 530 might do it for you. The handset will sport a 4-inch FWVGA display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor clocked at 1.2GHz. There will be 512MB of RAM accompanying the handset and 4GB of onboard storage, expandable via microSD. There will also be a 5MP rear-facing camera and will come bundled with Windows Phone 8.1.

What this means is that users can look forward to getting their hands on Cortana and taking it for a spin, assuming that they’re based in the US, of course. The Lumia 530 will also be available in single or dual SIM variants and will sport interchangeable back covers, with the former priced at €85 while the latter will go for €100. It will be available globally and will begin its rollout in August.
