This particular operating system update might lean with a slew of features that are more prone towards helping Microsoft succeed in China where the smartphone market is concerned, but this does not mean that the rest of the world should thumb their noses at the latest update.

As mentioned earlier this morning, the Chinese beta of Cortana is certainly worth checking out, being one of the two biggest features to be announced with the Windows Phone 8.1 Update. Apart from that, there will also be support for larger-format 960-by-540 displays, which is a common format that is normally found across a slew of highly affordable phablets over in the region of Asia.

Do expect Cortana to arrive in the U.K. as a beta, while folks who happen to live in Australia, Canada, and India will be able to obtain it as an alpha. Are you stoked yet?
