Microsoft To Announce Massive Job Cuts Soon [Rumor]

Is Microsoft experiencing tough times? Well that’s hard to say, but according to a report by Bloomberg, the Redmond company is expected to announce job cuts later this week which are supposedly one of the company’s largest job cuts in the past five years. The last big job cut by Microsoft saw the company reduce its headcount by as much as 5,800 people back in 2009.

According to Bloomberg, the job cuts will affect departments such as marketing, engineering, and former Nokia employees that Microsoft absorbed post-acquisition. Some of the job cuts will also affect jobs and divisions whose roles overlap with that of Nokia’s phone business, and could possibly extend to the global Xbox marketing team.

As it stands, Microsoft has a little over 120,000 employees which was last measured on the 5th of June. While it is unclear as to how many jobs Microsoft will be cutting, Gigaom has estimated that Microsoft could be letting go as many as 10% of its workforce. No word on when employees are expected to be let go, but it could be announced as soon as this week.

Alternatively it could also be announced on the 22nd of July which is when Microsoft’s annual sales meeting will take place, and it is also where Microsoft’s current CEO, Satya Nadella, will reveal the company’s plans to focus on their core.
