For our readers in China, you might be pleased to learn that Microsoft has recently sent out invites (via Chinese website ZOL) for an event that they will be holding in China for the launch of Cortana. Now we know that Microsoft was planning on bringing Cortana to China, but apparently its launch in China is a pretty big deal, big enough to warrant an event of its own.
Why is that? Well apparently Microsoft will be rebranding Cortana in China, although at this point it is unclear as to what the name Microsoft will be going for. However there is speculation that Microsoft could be renaming their voice assistant to “Huna”, although like we said, that is only speculation for now.
The event has been scheduled to take place on the 30th of July, so we guess we will only have to wait a week to find out what Microsoft will be calling their voice assistant in China. We’re not sure what’s with the rebranding though, perhaps they’re thinking of using a name that is more familiar to Chinese users, which makes us wonder if they’ll apply that to other countries as well, which could be potentially confusing.
In any case Microsoft’s announcement of Cortana for China will follow the UK’s launch of Cortana which is expected to take place very soon. We have also heard how Microsoft had customized Cortana for UK users by tossing in a British accent.
