However it seems that this problem has gotten way out of hand with League of Legends to the point where the game’s developer, Riot, has decided to shutdown the League of Legends public chat room for the time being. According to the developer, “The official public chat rooms have grown rife with RP sellers, scammers and Elo-boost spam. The default four rooms we established can be used by a tiny fraction of our players at a time. Given the number of League players, most conversation spills into private, community-created rooms.”
This does not mean that the public chat rooms will be gone for good – instead Riot is planning on recreating it from scratch in hopes that they will be able to turn it into something more useful, as opposed to it being a soapbox for spammers. In the meantime League of Legends gamers who wish to lend their voice to the creation of the new chat rooms by giving the developers some feedback.
In the meantime what do you guys think? Did Riot do the right thing by shutting down the public chat rooms?
