goTenna Will Let You Send Text Messages When There Is No Signal

Don’t you just hate it when you are out and for some reason your phone just won’t let you send messages or make calls due to poor reception? This can be pretty dangerous especially if you’re in an unknown location, or if you’re hiking and you got lost. Well a company called goTenna is hoping to change that with a device that will allow you to text or share your GPS coordinates even in places where you have no signal.

This is done by pairing the device (pictured above) with your smartphone via Bluetooth, which will then turn your phone into a low-frequency radio with a range of up to 50 miles. From there and through an iOS or Android app, it will allow users to send text messages or share your GPS location over a free ad hoc network with other goTenna users.

This means that the person receiving your message will require a goTenna device themselves and be at least within range for it to work. Like we said this could come in handy for hikers and adventurers to tend to wander into remote locations where cell reception might not necessarily be the best.
