Now before you think that Facebook plans on buying out Uber, think again. According to one of their sources who is familiar with the matter, both companies are apparently in talks about the possibility of integrating Uber’s services into the Messenger app. Unsurprisingly both Facebook and Uber have declined to comment on the matter.
According to a person familiar with the matter, “It’s very conceptual, and nowhere near execution. But it’s a direction that Messenger has to go in.” Does this partnership make sense? Well for Uber it would, because by partnering with Facebook, they would basically gain access to the millions of users on the social network.
It also sort of works out for Facebook too, because by integration Uber, they will be able to get customer payment information on file which could help them establish a base for future e-commerce ideas. Previously we reported that Facebook was testing for a way for users to make purchases within the social network itself, so by getting credit card information on file, it would make it a lot easier.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but what do you guys think? Does Facebook and Uber have what it takes to make their partnership work?
