The airline company will be rolling out an updated mobile app that will take advantage of the technology. The iBeacons will be placed at select European airports and its purpose is to remind passengers when they need to get their boarding pass and passports ready for inspection.
Presumably this is to get passengers ready for their flights and not hold up the lines digging through their bags for their credentials. This is actually a pilot program that is being tested by easyJet and if successful, the airline company expects to roll it out in full in the future.
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing or seeing an airline company use iBeacon. A couple of months ago, Virgin Atlantic implemented the technology in London’s Heathrow airport which will automatically load the passenger’s boarding pass when approaching the security checkpoint, which sounds similar-ish to what easyJet has in mind.
