According to a Deezer spokesperson, “Until recently Deezer offered a Premium service – ad free listening on the Web app. We no longer offer this as our listeners needs have changed… We feel the demand for a Web-only premium service is no longer required.”
Deezer adds that customers who are paying $4.99 a month for the desktop-only plan can remain on that plan if they want to, but future users and those who sign up after the 10th of July will have only the free or Premium+ plans to choose from. In some ways this is a boon for current subscribers who are paying half the amount to listen to ad-free music on their computers.
However if they were to switch to mobile, they’d have to put up with ads or pay the $9.99 subscription, but we guess if you don’t mind the occasional ad, which makes it feel a lot like listening to radio, then we guess it’s not such a bad deal at the end of the day. So, anyone planning to get their hands on Deezer after this announcement?
