The digital assistant Cortana is one of the biggest features present in Windows Phone 8.1. Even though the new software is going to be rolled out later this month the assistant won’t work in all markets. For now Cortana is limited to the U.S. though Microsoft recently promised that it would be expanded to additional countries very soon. One of those countries was the UK but an official Microsoft Twitter account has said that the launch isn’t going to take place in July as previously expected.
Group program manager for Cortana at Microsoft, Marcus Ash, posted on Twitter last month that Cortana would be released in the UK and China very soon. “Week not months,” he said but it appears that Microsoft’s plans have now changed.
In response to a query about Cortana launch in the UK Microsoft’s official Windows Phone UK account tweeted that the launch won’t be taking place in July “but later in 2014.” Its no concrete timeframe so one can’t really be sure if the launch has been delayed by a few weeks or a few months, but it certainly has been delayed.
Those who were waiting for Cortana in the UK would no doubt be disappointed but what else can they do right now except wait. Hopefully Microsoft will provide more details about this development and give a firm date for when its digital assistant goes live outside the U.S.
