A little over a week ago, BlackBerry announced that they had begun taking registrations for the closed BBM beta test for Windows Phone. Well the good news is that the beta has begun and if you’re one of the lucky few that managed to get in on the beta, you will be able to download the app so do check your emails where the instructions should have been sent to you.
According to reports, BBM beta for Windows Phone is expected to test features like BBID Setup and Log-in, creating a BBM profile, invite a contact and suggested contacts, 1-to-1 and multi-person chats, contact categories, manage settings, BBM groups, pin to start, notifications, and so on.
We’re not sure when BBM will be officially made available to the rest of Windows Phone users or if BlackBerry has plans for an open beta where anyone can participate, but here’s hoping that the current beta goes smoothly so that users will be able to download the app in the near future. The app has also been designed to match the Windows Phone interface, so it will be interesting to see how well-received that approach will be.
BBM for Windows Phone was confirmed earlier this year, several months after it had launched on iOS and Android. Last we heard, the app was scheduled for a release in July but considering that we’re almost two-thirds into the month, we’re not sure if they will be able to mee that deadline.
